5-Minute Paper Straw Flags

October 22, 2020 Posted by Stephanie Weddings

Sometimes the easiest DIYs are the best DIYs and that’s certainly the case with these cute 5-minute paper straw flags.

We love ourselves a good old fashioned DIY wedding. In fact, we believe that the best weddings are often made in the details, and that couples can (and should!) sprinkle fun, festive reminders of their big day everywhere they possibly can.

One way to do that is with cute drink stirrers. Choose straws that reflect the look and feel of your wedding. Then tack on a fun phrase that’ll get your guests in the festive spirit.

And did we mention they look cute in photos? We guarantee they’ll make for some good photo ops when Aunt Kay hits the champagne a tad too hard.

Read on to learn how to make your own paper straw flags.

Easy 5-Minute Paper Straw Flags

Materials

Printable straw flag template (it’s free!)
Regular printer paper (8.5 x 11)
Festive paper straws (mine originally came from Target but you can find cute ones on Amazon)
Glue stick
Scissors

1 | Trim your flags and apply glue

Print your paper flags on plain printer paper or on somewhat thin pieces of cardstock and trim them out.

Using a glue stick, apply a rather considerable layer of glue all over the back of your labels. You want to make sure there is enough glue in the center of the label to hold tight to the straw and at the ends to prevent any peeling as it dries.

2 | Wrap flags around paper straws

Center your flag about 1 1/2 inches from the top of the straw. Fold your label in half around the straw being sure to line up the edges. Press together.

Use scissors to trim the edge of your label in an inverted ‘v’ shape. There isn’t a marking for this on the template, but it’s easy enough just to eyeball it. It doesn’t have to be perfect!

Once finished, let your paper straw flags dry completely before placing in a glass by the bar at the wedding.
